Preparing for a Brazilian Wax
Brazilian Waxing is a popular method for removing hair from the root in the bikini area. It’s a fantastic way to maintain a clean and well-groomed appearance. However, preparing for your first session can be nerve-wracking. This guide will ease your worries and ensure you are well-prepared for your appointment.
Hair Length
If your hair is longer than 3 inches, we recommend you trim it to about 1 inch before your appointment. Long or entangled hairs will cause your wax to be more painful & breakage is possible. Due to insurance requirements we do not trim body hair.
Ideally, ensure your hair is at least 1/4 inch long for the wax to adhere properly. This typically takes about 2-3 weeks of growth.
Exfoliate
Gently exfoliate the area to be waxed 24 to 48 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells, making it easier for the wax to adhere to the hair. While we recommend gentle exfoliation specifically the day prior to your appointment, a timeframe of 24 to 48 hours also works well. You can use a physical or chemical scrub, or simply a washcloth and soap for this purpose. This preparatory step will help in achieving a cleaner and more effective waxing outcome.
Moisturize Before, but Not Day Of
Keep the area moisturized leading up to your appointment to ensure the skin is soft and ready for waxing. It’s advisable to use a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer to prevent any irritation. However, refrain from applying lotions or creams on the day of your wax to ensure the wax adheres properly to the hair.
Wear Loose, Comfortable Clothing
Wear loose, comfortable clothing to your appointment to ensure ease and minimal friction on the waxed area. Loose attire will help prevent any irritation or discomfort post-wax. Additionally, it allows your skin to breathe and recover more efficiently after the waxing procedure.
Communicate with Your Esthetician
Don’t hesitate to discuss any concerns or preferences with your esthetician. At On Fleek Studio, our professionals are there to ensure you have a comfortable and satisfying experience.
Minimize Pain with These Extra Tips
Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol 24 Hours Before
Avoid consuming caffeine and alcohol 24 hours before your waxing appointment as they can heighten skin sensitivity. Caffeine can tighten the pores, while alcohol can dry out the skin, both of which may lead to a more uncomfortable waxing experience. By steering clear of these substances, you help prepare your skin for a smoother and less painful waxing session.
OTC Pain Relievers
Consider taking an over-the-counter pain reliever like ibuprofen about 30 minutes before your appointment to help manage the discomfort. Despite our professionals being experienced and aiming to make the process as painless as possible, this step can provide additional comfort during your waxing session.
